Our Story

Seven years in Westview. A new room in Bankhead.

Zinah Gallery & Artisan Collective is the evolution of Zinah Artistic Retail & Gallery— the same devotion to handmade work by artists of color, now with the space to teach, exhibit, host and stay.

For seven years, Zinah Artistic Retail sat on a Westview corner selling handmade, one-of-a-kind work and quietly becoming a meeting place. Customers became friends, makers became family, and the shop kept outgrowing what a shop could hold.

Bankhead gave us a 2,000-square-foot gallery floor — and the upstairs studios grow it to over 4,000 square feet total: a gallery that takes emerging and seasoned artists of color seriously, six studios that anyone can rent by the hour, a classroom for people who've never made anything before, a residency suite for artists passing through, and a shop floor where the maker might be standing right next to you.

It's a place for people, organizations and small groups to gather, share, build, learn and support the arts. That's the whole assignment.

What we hold to

Artists of color, centered

Not a theme or a month — the whole premise of the room.

A true third space

Not home, not work. Somewhere to gather, share, build, learn and celebrate.

Making in place

The studios and gallery co-locating make building a stronger ecosystem possible.

Rooted in Bankhead

This space adds to a rich community rooted in culture and creativity.

Whether you collect, create, or just came in because you like the vibes— you're in the right room.
